European Freelance Dance Artist: I am a graduate from Middlesex University with a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts, a Special Certificate in Choreography and Performance from London Contemporary Dance School and an MA in Media Arts from MMU. Since graduating, I have been working with national and international dance companies, artists and leading dance professionals.
I am involved in intermedia discourse and trans-disciplinary works. Since 1990 I have been working as a successful protagonist of the synergies of cross-media content – and the hybridity of dance forms. This includes the utilisation of different expressive, visual and narrative languages, which experiments with these interrelations. Part of my practice is to critically consider the fractures and fissures of images as transformations, that allow social interactions, that leads to inclusion in art practices and activities. My logic as an artist is to open up and interrogate the boundaries of actual and potential socially constructed realities.
My work looks at developing new movement languages through cross art form fertilisation, allowing a different level of response to and from movement. I engage with dance theatre, visual art practices, anatomical work and how this relates to and has an impact on a new generation of practitioners within the creative arts environment.
I develop my work in a multi and inter-disciplinary environment, exploring the components of structure without adornment and the possibility of a reductive process that allows for performative precision and clarity. It is through this exploration of creating new ways of moving, devising new methodologies for creating original and thought provoking works that encourage participation and cross fertilisation of art forms.
Hence, for the past 24 years, I have investigated, explored and experimented with dance through various creative collaborative projects that have examined 'live' and mediated performance environments.
My performance work has been seen in the UK and Europe with companies such as Gestures Dance Company, Swamp Circus, Glee Club, Sensa Tempo, Twisted Collision Dance Theatre, Red Ladder Theatre CO, Robert Hylton, Voidance Co (Winner of the Turn Prize 2009 for 'Three Crows on the Road'), 'The Migrant Body Project' with MDI.
Previous collaborative works with artists include Stephen Petronio, Emilyn Claid, David Massingham, Earl Lloyd Hepburn, Siobhan Davies, Hans Tuerling, the late Lea Parkinson, Penny Arcade, Julie Tolentino, Marina Abramovich, Joan Jonas, Louise Wilson, Katherine Dawson, Pete Purdy, Lawrence Turnball, Ruth Gibson and Bruno Marteli (Igloo), Rachel Davies and the late Jeremy James
My performance work has been seen on BBC 1's OK 2 TALK FEELINGS, BBC's 10x10: NIGHTFRONTIER, Granada T.V Best of the Fest and Manchester International Festival (Sensa Tempo and 'The Assembly'). I have been involved in various Dance for Camera projects, including TWISTED COLLISION'S award winning 'TREADING WATER', which was part of VIDEO POSITIVE in 1995, CO3 Intergenerational dance film 'Golden Day Waltzing' 2005, 'Frozen' Migrant Body Project 2007, 'Static' with Mary Keane 2014
